Anderson Men’s Basketball Booster Club Meeting Minutes
Monday, May 4, 2015
6:30pm

Coach's report:

The Concordia League did not make this summer, so all teams will play WILCO. Coach should have the schedule within a couple of weeks. The FIRST GAME IS FIRST WEEK OF JUNE --- FINALS WEEK

Varsity will attend the TEAM Camp at UT June 11-13.

ANDERSON CLASSIC: coach has 9 teams lined up. We will have 3 pools of 3. We will need to pay for hotel rooms for the 7 teams. The district paid for officials for the tournament this year, and he expects them to do so again.

Teams : Anderson, Althos Leadership Academy, Fort Bend Dulles, Houston Chavez, Langham Creek, Kingwood, Duncanville, Plano West, Westlake

Coach would like to purchase new varsity uniforms and new shooting shirts. Coach thought AISD would be buying the uniforms, but we are on the rotation for 2016. Motion was made and seconded to use money left in booster club budget and reserves if needed for these purchases.

Treasurer's report:

Holly discussed budget and total in account.

Motion was made and seconded to add an expense line item to the budget for the summer camp.

A memorial bench plaque will be purchased for Paula Ramsay. PTSA will pay half. Motion was made and seconded for booster club to pay the other half.

President’s report:

There are still open positions for the booster club for next year. A sign up sheet was passed around showing these positions. Pamela Armour will fill the summer camp position. Other positions needed are: season program coordinator, personal ads, program photographer, opener and closer for concessions, playoff t-shirts and DVD.

Summer camp this year is three sessions with incoming freshman getting their own session. Booster club runs concessions for the camp so volunteers will be needed for that. Camp is June 22-25. Campers who wear their camp t-shirt to the Anderson Classic will get in free. Also, a middle school night is planned for home game before senior night next year.

Proposed by-law amendment was discussed pertaining to whether booster club meeting minutes should be posted on the website. Pamela reported that other schools don’t post their minutes. It was discussed and determined to continue to post our minutes on the website.

Coach Rhoads is working on sign sponsorship form. We will want to contact previous sponsors for basketball ASAP as other sports will be looking for new signs and renewals as well and it is first come, first served. Coach Rhoads’ goal is to raise the most money that we can with the signs. Not sure if sign pricess will be less for a renewal vs. a new sign purchase. Coach Allen will be in charge of ordering the signs. Question was raised about sponsorship of scorer’s table. It is currently going into its second year of a 3 year sponsorship with Beckman Orthodontics.

Previous request for wooden yard signs was discussed. Mary Trautman reported that foam board signs as have been used previously are about $20 each where wooden signs are about $30 each. Discussion ensued and it was determined to continue to use the foam board signs.

Several questions were asked of Coach Pittsford:

First, it was asked if he still wanted to go with the same colors for socks and shoes as this year and if so, shouldn’t it be on the website especially for incoming freshmen if they plan to purchase gear over the summer. Coach confirmed the same colors and that it should be on the website.

Question was asked about the sports physical packets and Coach said that they just received the ones for 2015-16 so they have not yet been distributed to students.

Finally, there were questions about the WILCO league and the need for coaches. The 8th and 9th grade teams and varsity have coaches. The two JV teams still need coaches.

Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.

Anderson Men’s Basketball Booster Club Meeting Minutes

Coach’s Report

Coach Pittsford thanked booster club members for hospitality, tournaments, away game meals, etc. All of our help really makes their jobs easier and other coaches and referees like coming to Anderson

Budget Update

Holly Newman discussed the budget and what is currently in our account. Might need to think about local teams to bring price of Anderson Classic down, or raise ticket prices. Stephen Ramsey’s wife passed away and we would like to contribute to them. Holly will look into what contribution we could make in Paula Ramsey’s honor – thinking about something for the dyslexia program in AISD. We will vote at our next meeting.

Coach’s Report

Freshman Uniforms- although the new shorts were supposed to be reversible (blue/white) they only sent us Blue Shorts- Coach will order white ones to match through Justin, then move on to a different vendor. Next year we will get district money for uniforms so we will buy new Varsity uniforms and pass the others down. We would like to buy new travel gear for Varsity and J.V. - a ¾ zip pull over with pants. Screen print on left chest. Coach would like to upgrade every level. Vote- Mary Trautman moved that we dip into the carry over budget to pay for the uniforms. All in favor- motion passed.

The next big thing is part of a weight room renewal—another Vertimax. Football bought two- Coach Rhoades is asking us to purchase one. We already have it in the budget so we don’t have to vote on it. Weight room: wants- two speed ladders, new Bungies-need 8 for resistance training against the wall, Bands ( for hip strength) . We want to provide the best functional strength training program to help prevent injuries.

Travel bags: we’d like to buy new bags for all teams. Medium Nike Brazilli. We need 65. Still within our equipment budget, so once again, we don’t need a vote.

Everything equipment related still fits within the budget so we don’t need to vote. All were in agreement to purchase the equipment.

Corporate Sponsorship Update

Just two new sponsors this year—the rest are long time. Try to frequent our sponsors and let them know that we’re with Anderson Basketball.

We’ll need TEN new families to contact the graduating seniors’ sponsors to ask if they’ll continue to sponsor. Gym signs are hung for Calendar Year. We don’t have to print new signs every year, just get the sponsors to ‘re-sponsor’.

The gym will most likely be painted this summer, so the signs will need to be taken down, and put back up after.

Anderson Classic Wrap Up

The tournament brought in a loss. It was suggested we don’t order t-shirts next year. We would like to have a total of 8 teams. The Australian team that came this year, won’t be able to come next year, so we’ll need three new teams. It was suggested we raise the cost of tickets to help defray the cost. Coach would like to continue hosting the tournament, as it allows our team to play very talented teams early in the season.

End of Season Banquet

Karen Tarantolo and Debra Ellsworth submitted options for dates and location. We voted to use First Presbyterian on either Monday, March 23rd or Thursday, March 26th. Coach prefers the Monday option. Suggested dates have been checked against baseball schedule, and will be double checked against Lacrosse schedule.

All players’ meals are covered. Parents will buy tickets. Motion was made by Gail Mitchell to move $ from Programs ( George Ross donated this) into Banquet to cover as much cost as possible- all in favor. Motion passed.

Spirit Ideas for Remaining Home Games

White Out the Maroons. Please wear white shirts to the game against the Austin High Maroons on Tuesday, February 10th. Announcements will be made in the Pep Rally on Friday, via the Runnin’ Trojans yahoo group, and Trojan Times. Posters will be hung throughout the school.

There will also be something ‘special’ planned for the Westlake game, but that will be announced later through the yahoo group, so it doesn’t leak out to Westlake.

New Business

Sign up for new volunteer positions next year.

Play-off games- We’ll need additional money for player meals for away games

Meeting was adjourned at 7:26 pm
